Self-Care Tips To Survive The Election
Stressed about the election? Like many of you, I too have found myself feeling the weight on my mental health with everything that’s going on with the elections. Which is why I think it’s important to consider mental health with frustrations, feelings, and emotions being at an all time high. 1. Plan “Time Out Sessions” to Just Enjoy Life I get that you feel the world is going up in flames and the sky is falling, but PAUSE for a second. Even though you may feel like it “the end of the world is coming” there is still a world out there that we need to be a part of. Plan a day with friends/family and declare it a “politics-free zone.” Share a meal, Laugh at dad jokes, make memories. 2. Unplug Regularly Take some time away from talking heads, multiple scrolling bars, and pop-up bars screaming for attention. Setting time limits allows your brain necessary resets to understand/appropriately disseminate the information you are getting. 3. Have An Activity That Helps Relieve Stress Whether that means taking time to go to the gym and sweat all the toxins out, taking some slow moments with your morning cup of coffee, reading scripture, or meditating. Your mental health depends on it. 4. Practice Gratitude We have SO much to be grateful for, despite this crazy year. If you need help, here’s a few: • Your eyes work to read this • Chances are if you’re reading this, you have internet. • Your heart is beating. • Clean air to breathe. • Clean water to drink. 5. Focus On Kindness • Smile at a stranger. • Call up someone who may be lonely & needs to chat. • Pay for the person behind you in the drive-thru lane’s coffee. The struggles we are facing today DO NOT end with one person in the White House. It starts with WE THE PEOPLE, not I, Joe Biden and not I, Donald Trump. WE THE PEOPLE are what makes this country great, WE THE PEOPLE are who can really promote change, and it starts in our own cities, states, and countries. Stop placing blame on other people to do the work, WE NEED to do. It starts and ends with us.
